HC Deb 10 May 1988 vol 133 c95W
Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to improve employment prospects in Glasgow, Maryhill; and how many registered unemployed people there were there in March 1984 and March 1988.

Mr. Lang

[holding answer 3 May 1988]: The Government can best improve the employment prospects of Glasgow, Maryhill, and of Scotland as a whole, by the creation of a healthy and vigorous economy. That is precisely what the Government are doing.

In March 1984 there were 7,443 unemployed claimants in the Glasgow, Maryhill parliamentary constituency. The corresponding figure in March 1988 was 7,300.
