§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe latest inventory of radioactive wastes in the United Kingdom (January 1986) indicates that there are some 4,000 cu m of intermediate-level wastes and 151 cu m of high-level wastes stored at civil nuclear sites in Scotland. Low-level wastes are not normally stored but are disposed of as they arise. A revised inventory is in the course of preparation. Spent nuclear fuel is not regarded as waste. There are some 109.5 tonnes of fuel in store at civil nuclear sites in Scotland pending reprocessing.
