HC Deb 04 May 1988 vol 132 c501W
Mrs. Beckett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the tear-off slip attached to form SB1(1988) will be accepted as a claim for income support.

Mr. Portillo

Yes.

Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people are receiving full income support to cover(a) rest home fees and (b) nursing home fees.

Mr. Portillo

There were 84,500 people claiming supplementary benefit in residential care homes in May 1987, and 32,300 in nursing homes. Information is not available about the number of these receiving only supplementary benefit; many supplementary benefit or income support claimants have other income to help meet the fees of their home, including contributory or other benefits. For those who qualify, the income-related benefit is paid in addition to this up to prescribed limits.
