§ Mr. Gordon BrownTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many tax units will be on incomes, including unearned income, in excess of £50,000, £70,000 and £100,000 in 1988–89.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 25 April 1988]: In 1988–89 it is estimated that 230,000 tax units (married couples and single people) will have total income of over £50,000 and that 100,000 tax units will have income of over £70,000. I regret that a reliable estimate of the number of 401W tax units with income of over £100,000 per year is not available as estimates are based on a projection of the 1985–86 survey of personal incomes. All estimates are provisional.
