To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will increase beef cow hill land compensatory allowances; and if he will make a statement.

The rates of hill livestock compensatory allowances to apply this year were announced in the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Torridge and Devon, West (Miss Nicholson) on 9 December 1987 at column 157. The allowances for 1989 will be considered later this year following the autumn review or the economic conditions in the hill and upland areas.
