To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how much the maximum cost of dental treatment has risen in real terms between April 1979 and April 1988.

The maximum cost to the patient for a single course of treatment under the general dental service was £30 on 1 April 1979. On 1 April 1988 it will become £150, an increase of 400 per cent, in cash and 160 per cent, in real terms¹.
