HC Deb 29 March 1988 vol 130 c432W
90. Mr. Patchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the change in the number of Her Majesty's mines and quarries inspectors in the Health and Safety Executive since 1979.

Mr. Nicholls

The number of mines and quarries inspectors has fallen from 116 in 1979 to 76 on 1 March 1988. This closely reflects the changes that have taken place, primarily in the mining industry, in size and structure over the same period.
