To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the change in the number of Her Majesty's agricultural inspectors in the Health and Safety Executive since 1979.

Mr. Nicholls

On 1 April 1979 there were 190 agricultural inspectors in the Health and Safety Executive. On 1 March 1988 there were 158. Recruitment to the inspectorate is at present under way.
