HC Deb 25 March 1988 vol 130 c231W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to the level of Sunday trading in Scotland and in other countries where trading restrictions have been liberalised.

Mr. Renton

A survey by MORI in 1985 found that in Scotland 16 per cent. of the shops in the sample opened on a Sunday. So far as other countries are concerned, I refer my hon. Friend to paragraphs 243–248 of the report of the committee of inquiry into the Shops Act, (Cmnd. 9376), copies of which are available in the Library.
