§ Mr. WallaceTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) when he received from the Scottish Special Housing Association the report on the results of its consultation with Scottish Special Housing Association tenants in Shetland;
(2) if he will place in the Library a copy of the report submitted to him by the Scottish Special Housing Association on the consultation with Scottish Special Housing Association tenants in Shetland; and if he will make a statement.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe Scottish Special Housing Association wrote to the Scottish Development Department on 12 February 1988 to explain its intentions in relation to the houses which they own in Shetland, in the light of the views expressed by their tenants. The letter was not primarily a report of the results of their consultation with their tenants, although it makes reference to the outcome. If the hon. Gentleman wishes to have specific information about the outcome of the consultation I suggest that it would be appropriate to direct his inquiry to the chairman of the association.
The association has decided not to withdraw from the ownership of houses in Shetland. Tenants who wish their houses to be sold to Hjaltland housing association will be free to continue discussions with that body. Houses which remain in the ownership of the Scottish Special Housing Association will continue to be managed on their behalf by Shetland islands council.
The Scottish Special Housing Association have written to all of their tenants in Shetland to notify them of these decisions. Shetland islands council, Hjaltland housing association and the Housing Corporation in Scotland have all been informed of the position.
