HC Deb 24 March 1988 vol 130 c218W
11. Mr. McCusker

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what progress has been made on reviewing the Anglo-Irish Agreement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tom King

The review of the working of the Intergovernmental Conference provided for in article 11 of the Anglo-Irish Agreement is not due until November. It is too early to comment on what may emerge from the review.

16. Mr. Clay

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he has received any representations from the Irish Government under the terms of the Anglo-Irish Agreement concerning the recent shootings in Gibraltar; and if he will make a statement.

17. Mr. Hunter

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what communication he has had recently with the Government of the Irish Republic on matters falling within the ambit of the Anglo-Irish Agreement.

18. Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether the accuracy of the information conveyed by Her Majesty's Government to the world press to justify the shootings in Gibraltar is to be discussed with the Government of Ireland under the terms of the Anglo-Irish Agreement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tom King

There has been continuing contact with the Government of the Irish Republic over a range of matters, including the attempted terrorist atrocity in Gibraltar, and subsequent events. The precise nature of communications on matters covered by the Anglo-Irish Agreement is generally confidential.

41. Sir John Biggs-Davison

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the current working of the Anglo-Irish Agreement.

Mr. Tom King

The institutions of the agreement are, I believe, working to the benefit of Anglo-Irish relations, and of the law-abiding people of Northern Ireland, and the agreement continues to provide a sound and valuable foundation for progress there.
