To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will detail the scientific and research evidence which has been produced to him in support of the proposed ban of all smokeless tobacco products;

(2) on what statistical, scientific and analytical information his Department has based its proposed ban on all smokeless tobacco products.

A large number of studies and reports have been taken into account by the Government. A detailed list of the references has been placed in the Library. Many are contained in a report of the advisory committee to the surgeon general of the United States Government on "The Health Consequences of Using Smokeless Tobacco" which was published in April 1986.
