To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will introduce legislation to seek to amend section 27(1) of the Education Act 1980 to cover peripatetic and advisory teachers both at school and when undertaking pre-school teaching; and if he will make a statement.

Both peripatetic and advisory teachers already come within the scope of section 27(1) of the 1980 Act in so far as they are teachers at schools. Teaching of children of pre-school age is similarly covered in so far as it takes place at a school. We have no plans to extend the scope of the section to further categories of staff.
