§ 47. Mr. McLoughlinTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the ratio of public to private sector expenditure on the Glasgow garden festival; and what have been the sums of money involved.
§ Mr. LangThe information is not available in the precise form requested.
The development, construction and operation of the 1988 Glasgow garden festival is the responsibility of the Scottish Development Agency, which is meeting the cost within a total budget of £41.4 million. The net cost of the festival is dependent on a number of factors, notably the number of visitors, but is presently estimated to be some £18.7 million. In addition, the festival organisers have sought involvement from a wide variety of public and private sector sources and the value of such contributions is presently estimated at some £14.6 million.
