To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his reply of 19 November,Official Report, column 621, what is the latest information on the numbers of establishments accepted for crown classification in each category including five gold crowns; how many hotels have failed to meet the specification; and if he will make a statement.

According to figures for England produced by the English tourist board, the information as at 23 February 1988 is as follows:

Six of the 5-crown graded hotels have also been given the five gold crown award. Of those establishments which have applied, 125 have failed to meet the criteria for classification.
