Mr. Sainsbury

In financial year 1986–87, the latest period for which figures are available, the total value of work placed in a competitive environment was the highest ever at £4.9 billion. We continue to seek competition wherever reasonable and practicable to achieve the best value for money in defence procurement. Where competition is not possible, we seek to maximise value for money through the use of taut terms and conditions and incentive arrangements.
