§ Mr. John PattenStatistics of notifiable offences recorded by the police, by type of offence and police force area, are published in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales, 1979" (Cmnd 8098, table 32), and in the "Criminal Statistics Supplementary Tables Volume 3" (table S.3.1.) for each year from 1980 to 1986. Copies of these volumes are available in the Library. Recorded numbers of some types of violent offences are small and subject to appreciable year-to-year fluctuation so percentage changes calculated from them might be misleading.
