HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 cc31-2W
Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services which countries have reciprocal arrangements with the United Kingdom for free medical treatment of their nationals.

Mrs. Currie

Normally, arrangements for reciprocal health care between countries do not provide for free treatment but for treatment to be provided to visitors to the host country on the same basis as to residents of that country. The Department's information leaflet SA41 "The Traveller's Guide to Health: Before You Go" lists those countries and territories with which we have reciprocal agreements on pages 18 to 19 and 24 to 27. Copies of this leaflet, and its companion SA40 "While You're Away", have been placed in the Library and are available from DHSS local offices, and travel agents and a number of other outlets.
