HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 c23W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he proposes to introduce any changes regarding country of origin requirements in the labelling of manufactured goods; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

Provision is made in the Consumer Protection Act 1987 for the repeal of the Trade Description Act 1972 which is concerned with the origin marking of imported goods generally. I propose to introduce successor requirements, by means of an order under section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 at the same time as effect is given to the repeal of the 1972 Act and to this end my Department is currently considering paper and draft order issued on 18 December last.
