HC Deb 18 March 1988 vol 129 c713W
Ms. Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many women have served as chairpersons in medical appeal tribunals in the south-west in the last year.

Mr. Portillo

I am advised by the president of social security appeal tribunals and medical appeal tribunals that, in the region covering Wales and the south-west, there are currently 19 persons appointed to serve of whom one is a woman. In England and Wales, nominations are made by the president from a panel appointed by the Lord Chancellor.
