To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what action he is taking on the recommendations of the efficiency committee report, "Improving Management in Government: The Next Steps," which are within the area of responsibility of his Department.

In accordance with the policy on Civil Service management announced by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 18 February, the Ministry of Defence is considering two candidates for possible agency status: the Non-Nuclear Research Establishments and the Meteorological Office.
