Prisoners (Transfer to Northern Ireland)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many requests for transfer to Northern Ireland prisons were received from prisoners serving their sentences in England and Wales during 1986 and 1987; and how many were granted.

In 1986, 25 requests for permanent transfer were received, two of which were granted; in 1987, 31 such requests were received and three were granted. A number of these requests are still being considered by the Home Office and the Northern Ireland Office.
