To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations his Department has received from British airlines on the matters to be negotiated by the British and United States Governments in regard to United States carrier access to Manchester international airport; what response he has made; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

A number of representations have been received from British airlines in regard to wider access for United States carriers to serve Manchester international airport. Their representations, together with all other representation received on this issue, will be taken into account in the forthcoming negotiations with the United States Government, scheduled for 17–18 March.
