To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to transfer responsibility for parking control and enforcement from the Metropolitan police to the London boroughs; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The possibility of giving local authorities, including those in London, more responsibility for the enforcement of parking regulations is among the matters being considered by a working party of representatives from the Home Office, Department of Transport, police and local authority associations. We hope to receive their report in the autumn.
