§ 26. Mr. ButlerTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received seeking the possibility of the use of pre-recorded video evidence in court of children in abuse cases.
§ Mr. John PattenTwo thirds of those who responded to our consultation paper issued last May on the use of video technology at the trials of alleged child abusers expressed some support for the wider use of video recordings. Since then we have also received a small number of letters of support from some hon. Members and members of the public. Recently I met a deputation led by the noble Baroness Faithfull, and one from the Police Federation led by my hon. Friend the Member for Bury St. Edmunds (Sir E. Griffiths) and in each case had useful discussions on the issue.
