To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received regarding the ending of Central Electricity Generating Board participation in research programmes into decommissioning nuclear reactors.

The UKAEA is in touch with my Department about the implications of the CEGB's position.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy how many nuclear reactors he estimates will be decommissioned before the year 2000; and which ones they will be.

This is a matter for the Central Electricity Generating Board. I have asked the chairman to write to the hon. Member.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy whether the conduct of research into the decommissioning of nuclear reactors will be a managerial matter for the appropriate privatised electricity generation company.

Yes. Other organisations may of course also wish to undertake research into decommissioning.
