HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 c594W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on his Department's policy towards submitting evidence to the European Parliament committee of inquiry on nuclear materials safeguards in the European Economic Community, with particular regard to the managing and packaging of nuclear materials sent from the United Kingdom to Mol in Belgium and Hanau in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr. Michael Spicer

No request for evidence has been received by my Department.

Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he possesses on the statement, and subsequent cross-examination, of the EEC Energy Commissioner before the European Parliament special inquiry committee into nuclear materials mismanagement and transport in the EEC held in Strasbourg on 10 March.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Mr. Mosar, Commissioner for Energy, made a presentation to the committee stating that following re-examination of previous checks on nuclear material at Hanau and Mol, the Commission had found no evidence of illegal exports. Mr. Mosar noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency had reached the same conclusion.
