HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 c617W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the average price paid per acre for farmland taken into public ownership for the building of Craigavon; how much land was taken; how much was subsequently sold back to its original owners; and what was the average price of the land resold to each category of owner as set out in the legislation to deal with such resales.

Mr. Needham

[holding answer 14 March 1988]: Some 6,200 acres of land was vested for Craigavon new town in 1966 at an average price per acre of £650. To date 560 acres of the surplus land has been sold to former owners. The average price of land sold to former owners who are still on the land is £1,565 and the average price for land sold to former owners who left the land is £1,765.
