HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 cc570-1W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of lancaster what steps were taken to ensure delivery to the House of Her Majesty's Government's brochure entitled "Action for Cities"; what requests were made to his Department in this respect; when copies first were supplied to the Vote Office of the House; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Copies of the Government's "Action for Cities" document were placed in the Library of the House by 11 am on 7 March. One hundred copies of the document were delivered to the Vote Office before 3 pm that day, a further 200 copies were delivered at 3.30 pm, and 200 more on 8 March. In addition, on 7 March I sent personal copies with a letter to 200 hon. Members with urban constituencies.

Mr. Boyes

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what has been the estimated cost to the Government of producing the booklet and accompanying materials of "Action for Cities".

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The total estimated cost of producing the 37,000 copies to date of the "Action for Cities" document and the associated press notices issued by Government Departments on 7 March is £72,900. This expenditure is designed to attract further involvement and financial commitment to the inner cities from the private sector, and is a small part of the approximately £3,000 million each year already committed by the Government to a wide range of policies to help regenerate our inner cities.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what was the total print of the documents associated with the Government's campaign "Action for Cities"; and what was the final cost.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The print to date is 37,000 copies of the document "Action for Cities", 2,000 press notices on each of the 12 announcements about new action by Government Departments and 2,000 press notices summarising these announcements. The total cost is about £72,900. This expenditure is designed to attract further involvement and financial commitment to the inner cities from the private sector, and is a small part of the approximately £3,000 million each year already committed by the Government to a wide range of policies to help regenerate our inner cities.
