Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people are(a) employed and (b) unemployed in east Antrim; and what percentage of the total unemployed in Northern Ireland (b) represents.

Mr. Viggers

On the basis of the most recent information available, there were in 1984 an estimated 22,050 employees in employment in the parliamentary constituency of Antrim, East.

At 11 February 1988 the number of unemployed claimants in the Antrim, East parliamentary constituency was 6,056. This represented 5 per cent. of the total number of unemployed in Northern Ireland at that date.
