Mr. Nellist

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the answer of 9 March, if he will instruct the Coventry district health authority not to enter into any further financial or other commitments with Coventry Church housing association, in relation to Whitley hospital, pending the outcome of his consideration of the health authority's proposal to close the hospital; on what basis commitments have already been entered into; and if he will make a statement.

We are currently considering Coventry district health authority's proposal to close the Whitley hospital and we expect to take a decision shortly. The health authority cannot enter into any commitments relating to the Whitley hospital while a decision on its future is pending.
