§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has to alter the public inquiry system into major planning schemes; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe Government's response to the fifth report, Session 1985–86, from the Environment Committee, "Planning: Appeals, Call-in and Major Public Inquiries: CM43", contained proposals for revised rules of procedure at public inquiries, and for a new code of practice on preparing for major inquiries. Following consultations with the Council on Tribunals and a wide range of other organisations, we expect shortly to submit the revised rules to the Lord Chancellor for making, and to bring the new code of practice into operation.
