Prison Visits (Hansard, 11 March 1988)

§ Mr. Bermingham
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how much was spent during the financial year 1986–87 on assisted prison visits in England and Wales;
(2) how much it is anticipated will be spent on assisted prison visits in England and Wales during the financial year 1987– 88;
(3) how much it is anticipated will be spent on assisted prison visits in England and Wales during the financial year 1988–89.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he anticipates any delays or a fall in applications as a result of the changes in the assisted prison visits scheme which will be introduced on 11 April.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications his Department expects the assisted prison visits unit to receive during its first year of operation.

§ Mr. Douglas Hogg
We expect the unit to receive over 50,000 applications in its first year.
