To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is his latest estimate of the balance of trade in information technology for 1987.

Mr. Maude

The crude trade deficit (1) in the products of the information technology and electronics industries (2) in the first nine months of 1987, not seasonally adjusted, was £1.7 billion.
