§ Mr. Chris PattenIn recent years the Department has sponsored studies covering the role of multinational corporations in assisting small-scale enterprises, privatisation in developing countries, and the role of British commercial banks in Commonwealth development. Related studies include trade and industrial strategies of the newly industrialised countries, export diversification for the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, and the promotion of Indian handicrafts for export.
