§ Mr. Michael SpicerThe CEGB plans to install flue gas desulphurisation equipment on 6,000 MW of existing coal-fired generating plant over the period 1988 to 1997.
Each 2,000 MW coal-fired power station using FGD equipment would use about 300,000 tonnes of limestone per year when operating at high load factors. This represents about 0 .3 per cent. of annual United Kingdom limestone production.
§ 20. Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy on the reduction of sulphur dioxide emissions from(a) Central Electricity Generating Board power stations and (b) privately owned power stations.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerAll new coal-fired power stations operated by both the public and private sector will be fitted with FGD equipment to the requirements of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution. In addition, the CEGB plans to retrofit 6,000 MW of existing generating capacity over the period 1988 to 1997.
