HC Deb 04 March 1988 vol 128 cc743-4W
Mr. Alexander

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were employed by Trent regional health authority on adminstrative duties in each year since 1982.

Mr. Currie

The table sets out the information requested. It excludes staff employed by district health authorities. I understand that the sharp changes in numbers of staff in 1983, 1985 and 1986 are due to transfers of functions (and staff) between the region and its districts and vice versa. The NHS in the Trent region employs more than 75,000 people (whole-time equivalents).
