§ Q160. Mr. MarlowTo ask the Prime Minister if she will set up a Cabinet Committee to consider the introduction of a system of identity cards.
§ Mr. WakehamI have been asked to reply.
I have nothing further to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to my hon. Friend the Member for Norwich, North (Mr. Thompson) on 26 January, at column 133, on the establishment of a Cabinet Committee. The introduction of identity cards along the lines of those issued in some European countries has been considered from time to time, but we are not persuaded that a sufficiently strong case could be made out for their issue here.
