Mr. Battle

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many young people had their benefit reduced or suspended between April 1987 and February 1988 for either(a) refusing a youth training scheme place or (b) leaving a scheme early in (i) the Leeds, West constituency, (ii) the Leeds metropolitan district council area and (iii) Britain; and if he will make a statement.

The information requested is not available in the precise form requested since the boundaries of the Leeds, West constituency and the Leeds metropolitan district council area are not conterminous with the areas covered by the Department's local offices. However, the following information which is provisional, and therefore subject to amendment, may be of interest.
