To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to receive proposals from the Brussels Commission concerning an allowance to incorporate cereals in animal feedingstuffs; and if he will make a statement.

The European Council has requested the Commission to examine what measures could be introduced for the utilisation of cereals in compound feedingstuffs and to submit appropriate proposals in the context of the 1988–89 price fixing. I continue to have reservations about the cost-effectiveness of schemes intended to increase the usage of cereals in animal feedingstuffs.
