§ Mr. SayeedTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what categories of applicant for settlement in the United Kingdom will be exempt or subject to reduced fees under clause 8 of the Immigration Bill.
§ Mr. RentonNo firm decision has yet been taken on how the powers in clause 8 of the Immigration Bill might be implemented. Regulations under clause 8 may prescribe different fees for different categories of applicant, including the possibility of exemptions from the fee. At first sight, we think that there may be a case for reductions in the case of refugees and those, such as spouses and fiancé(e)s, who are admitted on conditions specifically with a view to settlement. Final decisions will be taken when we come to draw up regulations under clause 8.
