HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 cc557-8W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the firms of architects, builders and surveyors that the Property Services Agency has removed from its approved list for(a) fraud or (b) poor performance, giving the name of each firm, details of each case of fraud including the amounts of money involved and the number of employees or the instances of poor performance, and the work which the firm previously undertook.

Mr. Chope

Any firm convicted of an offence involving fraud against the agency is removed from PSA's approved lists. Any such conviction is a matter of public record. The remaining information requested is commercially confidential.

Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will enumerate cases where fraud has been alleged against firms of architects, builders and surveyors under contract to the Property Services Agency where the police were not asked to investigate; and if he will summarise the principal reasons for such decisions, over the past five years.

Mr. Chope

Any significant allegation of fraud which stands up to initial scrutiny will be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions or to the police. No central record is maintained of allegations which initial investigation suggests are either without foundation or incapable of substantiation.
