HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 c517W
Mr. Steel

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will take steps to end the provision whereby imported cloth and yarn dyed in Britain qualifies as originating in Britain.

Mr. Alan Clark

No. The European Community's non-preferential origin rules at present allow the dyeing and finishing of cloth as an origin-conferring process. Following consultation with the United Kingdom industry, my Department will not be objecting to the retention of the existing rule during current negotiations in Brussels.
