HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 c517W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he will consider outlawing the advertising of animal furs.

Mr. Alan Clark

I have no plans to do so. My Department is, however, consulting publicly on a proposed order under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, to require goods made from the fur of certain species to be labelled to the effect that the animals are commonly caught by means of the leg-hold trap. Under this proposal, advertisements would also be required to contain this information where the prospective purchaser could buy the fur without prior inspection.
