I have decided that the contract for the research team for the care for the elderly at university of Wales college of medicine should not be renewed as more cost-effective arrangements could be made.
This decision followed a review of the team's work led by the DHSS chief scientist assisted by a team of external academic assessors.
I intend that there should be no reduction in the amount spent on research into the problems of the elderly.
