§ Mr. PikeTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will provide a breakdown of the distribution to individual local education authorities of the additional resources for GCSE-related expenditure of(a) the sum for secondary school libraries and (b) the general allocation.
§ Mrs. RumboldThe table gives the amount allocated to each local education authority within the education support grant for 1986–87 for the additional costs of books and equipment associated with the introduction of the GCSE. The subsequent distribution of these resources is the responsibility of the individual authorities. These amounts do not include provision within the LEA training grants scheme in 1988–89 of £15 million for in-service training related to the assessment of achievement including GCSE; nor do they include the additions to rate support grant in respect of GCSE-related expenditure, of £90 million in 1987–88 and £77 million in 1988–89.
