HC Deb 21 June 1988 vol 135 c546W
Mr. Favell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is able to make an announcement concerning the future of the resettlement unit at Worsley, Manchester; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

A review team consisting of representatives of voluntary and statutory organisations has recently submitted a package of proposals for the funding of schemes dealing with the resettlement of homeless people, to replace the services provided by the Worsley resettlement unit. The schemes would provide smaller facilities in Bury, Rochdale, Salford, Oldham, Tameside, Wigan, Leigh, Stockport, Bolton and Manchester. I have agreed these proposals, and detailed arrangements for local buildings and sites will now be considered. The resettlement unit will eventually close although no actual closure date has yet been arranged.
