HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c412W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for the Social Services what entitlement to pension by virtue of age, injury or disability is granted in the United Kingdom to citizens of Eire; and if these rights are reciprocal.

Mr. Scott

The United Kingdom social security scheme does not discriminate on the grounds of nationality. Citizens of the Republic of Ireland in the United Kingdom are entitled to all social security benefits payable on account of age, injury or disability providing they satisfy the relevant conditions. Similarly, a United Kingdom citizen in the Republic of Ireland who satisfies the conditions for Irish benefits will be entitled to them.
