HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c447W
52. Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what further plans he has to improve public transport in London; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

The Government have approved investment by London Regional Transport of £365 million for this year and for Network SouthEast the planned investment is £197 million per annum on average over the next five years. We look forward to receiving next month the initial report of the central London rail study on improvements to London's rail services in the longer term. London Buses will be restructured into smaller units, providing some benefits as a result of increased competition; and in the early 1990s the benefits of deregulation will further improve service for the public.
