HL Deb 20 June 1988 vol 498 c589WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether any private interest or company has made contributions towards the costs of the North Esk fish counter; and if so, which interest or company, what amounts have been contributed, and when.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Sanderson of Bowden)

No such contributions have been made towards the provision of this facility.

The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why it is not possible to provide an itemised breakdown of annual expenditure on the North Esk experimental fish counter; and whether the costs stated in Lord Sanderson of Bowden's written reply (HL deb, 11th April 1988, col. 963) include expenditures on scientific and research equipment for the weir and its counter.

Lord Sanderson of Bowden

The costs arising annually on the work undertaken at the Logie counter form a small part of the expenditure on a wider programme of research into the collection of data on salmon stocks generally and their movement in river systems and as such cannot be provided in the detail sought. Expenditure on scientific and research equipment for the weir and its counter was included in the information given in my earlier Answer.
